Wine, Dinner, Cake and The Upfront

Jeff and I got a surprise date night this past Saturday after my wonderful friend offered to babysit the girls.  We started out at the cozy Temple Bar where we talked (yes, mostly about the girls).  After that we walked all over downtown trying to figure out what to do with the rest of our evening.  We ended up having dinner at the Shrimp Shack which is a great little seafood restaurant that has been here ever since I moved to Bham.  It's always been one of those places I have meant to go to but just never have.  Now, I will definitely be going back because everything was great, even the homemade coleslaw.  Then, how can you be on a dinner date and not have a dessert so we walked back across town to Pure Bliss.  OMG!  Their cake was soooo yummy.  Jeff and I splurged big time here.  I enjoyed a big piece of coconut cake and he got chocolate.   So good.  Then we figured since it was only 7:30 and we might as well work off some of those cake calories, we walked back across downtown to The UpFront Theatre.  Again, another place I have always wanted to go but just never have. It is an improv comedy club owned by our local, Ryan Stiles (from the show Whose Line is it Anyway).  We had a lot of fun there and while the improv wasn't spectacular it was still fun and a great place to go on a date.  So thank you as always Janice and Glenn for giving us a much appreciated night out on the town....and in true Garner fashion we were still home and in bed by 10:30.
